Since we’ve been working on sprucing up our (living room), our hall closet is another attached space has also needed a little attention.
The entrance to our home brings you right into the living room. Everyone says that first impressions are lasting, and your first impression of our place would be, “wow, this family has a lot of coats and shoes.”
Naturally, our family walks in the door, plops their coats right on the couch and takes their shoes off in the middle of the floor. (yep, this has become a serious tripping hazard!) Between the five of us, it’s an area that can look pretty cluttered, fairly quickly. I’ve done a little bit of brainstorming Pinterest surfing and came up with a game plan for this little problem of ours.
First, we really need to make the hall/coat closet more functional as a coat closet. The little hooks behind our front door can only hold so much. Right now the hall closet doubles as bathroom/linen storage, so it is a space that is currently a little overwhelming. (Read as: a lot of unorganized junk crammed into a very narrow space.)
I feel in love with this as soon as I saw it. Add additional storage to all that unused space at the bottom of the closet by adding shelves? BRILLIANT!
Second, come up with a solution for storing shoes. There are so many great ideas out there, but we need something that doesn’t take up a lot of space.
I like the look of this “Shoe” dresser. But I think it’s too clunky for the space we have to work with.
I liked these plans from Ana White, but I still think it’s too complicated for the room that we have available.

So, I’ve dreampt up something that I think would be perfect, but we’ll have to build it first. Here’s a glimpse of my inspiration…
I know, I know. How could you possible get shoe storage from that? I guess we’ll have to wait and see if the hubs will let me tackle building my hair brained idea. Here is the ridiculous Paint drawing that I came up with to try to convey what I was thinking.

I hope that made you laugh out loud! (Like the hubby did when I sent it to him.) Ha!
Progress has been a little slow going on the living room since the last post, but I hope to get a lot done over the next week. We have a project in the works that should be completed over the weekend and I can’t wait to share!
Happy Friday!

Even though it is a stick drawing, I totally understand what you’re thinking of. It is brilliant!!!!
